If you receive a message asking you to log in to your Facebook account, be cautious! A phishing campaign, currently targeting iOS users, is applying this technique to capture valid social media credentials. Here’s how this scam works:
A fake copy of a legitimate website attracts users to log in with social media credentials. The recipient then clicks a button for what appears to be the legitimate Facebook login page. After entering their data and clicking a button, they receive a message that their credentials have been compromised and their session ends. The scam now has personal info that can be used for nefarious purposes. To help protect against such attacks, it’s best to use multi-factor authentication with social media platforms, or a password manager. Note: While this scam currently is focused on iOS users, it could just as easily be applied to Android devices.
